Quillback Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I had many a bonfire just like that. But I believe I have solved the riddle, or had the pieces to the puzzle given to me by a forum member. Next time you want to start a fire just send them my way and I will fix them up for you. I'm not only saving the ozone from the PFC's coming out of your fire but I am also treating your psychological damage.....which the root cause is the Redfin. Dr. Zoom Fish Doctor at your service. OK, I may take up on that offer, just need to get out and fish them and weed out the bad ones.
abkeenan Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 OK, I may take up on that offer, just need to get out and fish them and weed out the bad ones. With the way they are weighted there really aren't "bad ones" anymore. Some are still a little better than others, but they all work to an extent whereas before like you said a handful are totally useless.
Champ188 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 What the heck are you guys talking about?
1farmer Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Burning baits: square bill, I have done well over the last month burning a square bill. Almost all of the bigger bass that I've caught on square bill have been burning it. Stopped on a community hole 4 years ago , first six casts yielded 1 drum, 1 sand bass, 1 small largemouth, and 1 decent kentucky all on moderate retrieve, after 8 or 10 more casts decided it's time to go, started reeling fast and bait stops, first thought I've got big ole drum now, it happens to be a 6+ largemouth, I'm convinced fish was there all the time and the added speed triggered the bite. I now burn a square bill most of the time. spinnerbait, Three trips come to mind involving burning a spinnerbait, two last fall at that oklahoma smallmouth lake, Tenkiller and the other this spring here at home. The first trip to tenkiller caught over 40 fish, 14 overs, before 10 am, fishing partner had 5 fish throwing same bait, only difference was speed of retrieve. The spring trip, started with 3/8 oz spinnerbait with oversized blades managed to catch 4 with 1 over 15 inches, switched to 1/2 oz screaming eagle with #4 trailing blade when I started burning it caught 17 in the next 1 1/2 hours.
1farmer Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Jerk baits: My 12 month bait, fishing the river it,s all about the current, when it flows they bite, when it doesn't the jerk bait will sometimes work. It worked this past saturday to the tune of 6 fish in 2 1/2 hours, lost more than I caught, 5 of these were hooked on the back hook, know that 2 more that I lost were hooked the same way. Started to change to different color or style maybe to get better hookup, but thought that might be to much trouble. Did throw square bill some and only had one bite.
Billfo Posted September 24, 2015 Author Posted September 24, 2015 Other than the Jerkbait replies, I am still on track with the burning of the crank & spinner baits. The jerkbaits I am new to. Seems mostly cooler temp driven, stop & go. Thanks for the replies.. Except for the fire pit methods, despite what others think, burnt crank baits do not taste like chicken !
