MOsmallies Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Nice nice fish Joe! And I think I speak on behalf of everyone here... Thanks for covering up your face! The pearl fluke strikes again!
joeD Posted October 5, 2015 Author Posted October 5, 2015 Yes, you are correct Mister MOSmallies. By covering my face, I save everyone anguish, because I am f****** handsome, and would, no doubt, make all you swinging d**** jealous. However, I do indeed wish I caught a 50 lb grouper to cover my extended paunch. OOOfff! Fatso! Nice little trip fellas. We were going to go from Mammoth to Merrill, but, Merrill Horse was closed because of construction. What?! Are you kidding me? Gravel wasn't good enough? So, we trucked back to Mammoth, dropped my van, went to Washington State Park. Weather was cloudy and 50 degrees. It was cold. I had layers believe it or not. Anyway, the water temp wasn't that cold (we knew from fishing Wednesday from 21 to the park), and cloud cover was key. Caught fish steadily until the sun came out. Like a light switch, fishing turned off. We concentrated on shade and wood. With success. Also, and it must be said, the water color was perfect for the Big. Not a brownish muddy junkhole. Anyway. There it is. MOsmallies 1
Gavin Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Good for you guys! Finally got out for a 9 mile float on the Meramec yesterday. Coldwater bailed at the last minute, so it was just me and Hoff. Hoff got a nice 16-17" fish on B2 buzzer off the bat, and stuck with it the rest of the day. I was mixing it up. Caught fish here and there on everything I tried. Walkers, Swim Jigs, Spinners, Jerkbaits, but nothing consistent. Went to small weedless plastics on 1/8oz and things picked up considerably. Really light bite. Punching wood mostly. If your jig didn't hit bottom within a 5 count reel and set the hook. The line would rarely move and you rarely felt the hit. Mixed bag of smallies, spots, and a drum. My best 15" or so. A bit chilly, but allot of fun, didn't see anyone else on the river. Mitch f 1
joeD Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 9 miles? I just don't get it. Seems punitive, rather than enjoyable. Eh, what do I know? Fishing is hit and miss this time of year, though, I'll vouchsafe. Encouraged by that buzzbait topwater hit. Glad you put your big boy nylon pants on Gavin, and went out and dominated the day with angling excellence! FISH ONNN! Mitch f and Gavin 2
