dan hufferd Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Caught a limit of 4, 1 @ 15, 3 @ 16 18 - 24 FOW The pink spinner strikes again !
Kramr Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 18 ft puts them just out of reach for my flicker shad and I don't use lead core. I have had good luck in the past with a 3 way and stick baits such as the rapala floating minnow when the walleye are actively feeding. The size of the 4 - 6 inch minnow tends to eliminate the smaller ones. You get less fish but they are more likely to be keepers. Will switch to worms if this doesn't work. I have been using slow death hooks with pretty good success. blacknoseddace 1
LoweSTX175 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I'm going to be on the lake Sunday after about a two week break. Have the large amounts of shad sort of died off? I was seeing huge groups on the downscan/finder with the larger fish underneath the group. I figured trolling cranks underneath would have got more hits. It didn't for me. My philosophy was I was showing one hotwing at a huge buffet. Every fish wanted to chomp on the prime rib and not the hotwing.
Kramr Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Think it's too early for die-offs yet but with all the bait fish around, pickens has got to be pretty easy. Well, fortunately, I got a bunch of other stuff to try. Slow death, jig and minnow, drop shot, slip bobber, something should work.
LoweSTX175 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I'm going to try using a bottom bouncer on a floating jig head with a grub. Run about a 2-2.5 leader off the BB. Something I've been wanting to try but haven't yet.
dan hufferd Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 night crawler on a floating jighead works, but I have watch a suspended walleye go from 12' to 18' after a crawler spinner harness. it must be the vibration/flash. wtr dogs 1
LoweSTX175 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I could slide a spinner and a bead on the leader to get the flash up against the jig head. I'm just wondering if that would be too much weight causing the jig head to sink. I could also put an additional floater on it I suppose. dan hufferd 1

packersooner Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I'm going to try using a bottom bouncer on a floating jig head with a grub. Run about a 2-2.5 leader off the BB. Something I've been wanting to try but haven't yet. This is a good tactic. Try running the floating jig head/grub rod as a "dead stick" in a rod holder while fishing a crawler harness or slow death setup off the other side of the boat. I usually keep the dead stick rod 3-4 feet off the bottom to avoid hang-ups.
