Agree that it would be ideal camp host job. But I will definitely keep it in mind for retirement. Guess I never thought it thru about the Forest Service owning Greer CG. Sure wish it was a little more developed with electric/water/shower. I know someone (probably Brian) told me on here once before about the copper being stolen from electric boxes at Greer. What a shame. Hmmmmm time sort of dragging along huh Mark
Gavin Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Greer is a Forest Service CG. It's not funded by the NPS or the State Park system. I like my trailer when we take the kids but I'd still rather float camp. Was great camping at McCormack, then down between Little Mary and Mary Decker a couple weeks ago. Weather was nice so the tents got left at the put in.
jdmidwest Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 The initial purchase of 11 Pt land is funded by the Lead Remediation monies. But what about development and expense of staffing and running? That will fall on the State Park System budget. The same thing happened at Camp Zoe, the land was seized or forfeited by the owner. The cost of development and staff will be out of the State Park budget. I had thought there was to be some improvements at Greer last year with electric sites and a shower house. I assume nothing ever became of that? They fixed the ramp at Whitten last year and changed the parking lot around, but did not do anything to make it a camping area. They could easily clear off some land and make several campsites there. But keep it primitive. Mark Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Guess I am not following. Why would State Park System be responsible for staffing and running a USFS campground? Agree -Whitten and Turner South could use a few more campsites instead on new development. And what is wrong with campsites at Riverton access? I realize many boats/canoes put in and take out there, but it never seems as crowded as Whitten. Never have understood why no camping allowed at Riverton.
Brian Sloss Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 He is talking about staffing the new state park that started the thread, not Turner or Whitten. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
