sms_alum Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Got this guy on Friday evening about 6:00. Not the biggest, but my first buck with a bow. Him and a smaller one came in to check out the rattling. I would say they are starting to get interested in the rut. Didn't see much daytime activity yet, everything was at dusk or dawn. BilletHead Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Nice deer and well done. I hope to be out in the morning again! Johnsfolly Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Good luck Marty. I did have a real good buck pass without giving me a shot last Sat on public land. Looked like your tall tined pictures, but with little more mass. My son hasn't committed to hunting this youth weekend. If we did, the wind would not be good to go after the buck I saw last week. Need a N or NW wind to get on him.
Johnsfolly Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Congrats on a nice buck. I still go with any deer with a bow is a trophy and most are great eating.
BilletHead Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 Report from the stand. First of all yesterday morning I had the big long tined buck pictured at 20 yards. RIght behind a cedar tree. He was grunting and chasing a doe. He turned and walked straight away behind the tree. Sofar this evening only getting craped on by birds. TWICE. Just to let you know the birds are eating grapes, BilletHead tho1mas and bs1827 2 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" bs1827 Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Marty, if you're getting a little too busy this fall and need someone to harvest one of those deer just let me know Had a beautiful 8 pointer come in to about 50 yards last weekend. Made a scrape and started walking away so I hit him with a couple of light grunts. He did a complete 180, looked around for a couple of seconds and bolted. Made me sick to watch him disappear. He was either the non-confrontational type or he's had his butt kicked before. BilletHead 1
BilletHead Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 May need a bomb to get this guy. Sat off and on over the weekend with slick heads and a couple smaller bucks out and about. Bucks were moving for others though. Have a neighbor that bought land across from us. He took his son over there and his wife took their daughter to another farm they have a hunting lease on. The boy took an eight pointer and the daughter a very big ten. He brought his son over to show off his deer and then he texted me a photo of both the kids with their deer. Biggest grins in the world for those youngsters. Glad they have a youth season for kids!
