Ham Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 They work very well down to size #2. I've caught bluegill on #2's, ive never used a 8/0. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Gavin Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 You should be fine with your bass tackle. Usually fish a medium jig rod and a medium light for minnow plugs. You can step up to 8-12lb flouro leader if tossing a 3-5" minnow plug . Brown trout aren't shy. Rainbows eat little stuff... Kastmaster our a jig.
Al Agnew Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I wouldn't go ultralight, either. Light power 5.5-6 ft. rod is as light as I'd go. And I wouldn't do the 20 pound braid, either. Just because the diameter is only slightly thicker than the 4-6 pound line you want to use as a leader, it doesn't mean it acts like 4-6 pound mono. Braid is affected more by current, and since it tends to float, your lure sinks at a slower rate, something that doesn't make much difference with a 1/2 ounce bass jig, but makes a big difference on a 1/32 ounce trout jig. Personally, I'd go 2/10 braid. I might even try 1/6 braid with no leader. Your terminal line, whatever it is, should be matched to size of jigs or other lures you're throwing. I've never been convinced that trout are particularly line shy, but heavier line overpowers small jigs and other small trout type lures. Seth 1
