 Yes stuff like DD22 , Strike King XD 10 , old Poe's .  Bandit 300's and the like for the somewhat smaller 10 ft divers .  The Strike King 8.0 is another lure in the mix .

 The bigger and bulkier the better.

I agree with all of this, I have my best luck with bandit 200 and 300 series, and also flicker shads.  Granted I suck at river fishing, and dont do it very often, but ive found my best luck with the deep divers coming because they hit the bottom even when cast upstream.  Seems like most on here talk about casting downstream, yet all of my bites come when i cast up stream and the bait is swimming downtstream with the current.  The deep bill allows the bait to hit the bottom even when its moving with the current.  This is an interesting thread, just one more overlooked technique.

Whenever i fish a deep diver on the Meramec that gets to the bottom i end up with a bunch of algae. How do you prevent that?

I usually don't get algae on my cranks in the winter unless I'm fishing by a spring.
