mic Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Well try number two. This one uses chewie skin for back. Marabou for tail. What I'm not sure about is it uses left over dry fly hackle for legs. It might be to stiff. Suggestions welcomed.
trythisonemv Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 They look similar very similar . . . O think both are great!
Lancer09 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I like the beaded wooly. I just think you need some series weight for a hellgrammite and that will get it down and into the runs where those will do well.
rumrunner Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 good idea on the hackle.my saddle hackle sweeps back, more body like than legs.
mic Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 Well I tried the fly this weekend. I think I will have to try again. It rides upside down. Oh well. Try number three here we come.

rFisherk Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 The beads added weight, and because that weight was off center, it naturally oriented the fly upside-down. Just flip your hook and tie the beads on the bottom. For a bottom-dragging fly, having the hook ride up will keep it from hanging on rocks and things as much and improve the hooking qualities. It's a good thing.
