Zach Bearden Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I like it but 1 question! How does it not shred? I think when a big striper or a big brown comes up and hits it the tubings gonna shred from a brown? But all around Good looking fly Dano! "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Ham Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 That's a fly designed to catch fishermen first and fish second. I'd much rather have flies that represent a lot of things well rather than one thing perfectly. It is a beautiful fly, but how does ikt look in the water and how does it move in the water? Steve Smith Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Dano; that fly reminds me of a lure Mann produced years ago for warm water. It was foam and had a eye on the top and bottom. You'd tie in a short dropper and a structure spoon. I can't remember the name of it though, and it never really took off. I'd say this fly is intended to drift and tumble like a severed shad that came through the turbines. I would guess the blood line is nail polish that would keep the weave from coming loose. It would be interesting to hear any reports on this one. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Flysmallie Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I like it Dano. I'm sure that there are some coatings out there that could solve the fraying problem, if there is one.
Danoinark Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 Gents I should have written a disclaimer with that fly in that I did not tie it. There was just some threads dealing with shad kills and I had this picture in my archives and thought I would post it. I too think it probably would be a good bet for trout during a kill because as Steve said it would represent one that was shredded during its travel through the turbines. I suspect it was tied with mylar tubing and then some type coating on the frayed mylar and red fingernail polish is probably a good bet. I can't recall where I saw this and archived it just for its creativity and being unusual. I would bet the way its tied it floats but probably weight would be added to drop it some in the water column. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Good lookin fly! I'd be interested to see how it fishes. I bet it's a good for the shad kill. I know I'm a fisherman and it got me, but if I was a fish, I think I'd have to take a look at it. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
