One day this spring when I get my jon boat set up, I will get my a$$ out and try to learn the "How to's" in Hybrid fishing to be consistent on the Osage.

Good luck with that, Linhardt !    They are the most rediculis and unpredictable fish that swims.  They drive me absolutely insane.

Nice one, Danny !

They kind of drive me insane on Osage also, the few times I have tried.  I do ok on Truman or Truman Spillway.  Just need to get outboard running and setup on jon boat then can hit Osage to try some more.

fishinwrench, You might get a few '96 Yamaha 9.9 repair questions coming your way if I run into any trouble.  Wanting to work on it myself to learn.  Have had some experience with an '68 20 HP Evinrude I used to own and repaired.  But this Yamaha is only my second outboard to work on.  Other owner said it ran, then quit and couldn't get started, and he put in storage.  Looks brand new, but I haven't tried starting yet. I figure changing oil, replace impeller, spark plugs, clean carb, new gas can and line should be a good start.

No prob.   Check your compression first, just to be sure it is worth the effort.  If it was running fine then just died and wouldn't restart the motor may have severely overheated.

Ignition system failure is pretty rare on Yamaha's, so if compression is good it is likely that a fuel system overhaul and a fresh water pump will bring it back to life.

Gotcha, will check compression first. What would an acceptable compression psi be for 9.9 yamaha?  Thanks.

It can be as low as 90 or as high as 125,  the important thing is that both cylinders are within 10% of each other.   You have 2 cylinders....but one carb, so even compression is what you hope to see.
