Sad to see him go.  Hopefully he can beat the cancer. Nobody could have imagined where he took this program and I doubt we see it back there for quite some time. So, who's the best black coach available?

I agree wholeheartedly.  He's been one of the most underrated coaches in college basketball--what he did with the kind of recruits Missouri gets was little short of amazing.  No, he never won the big game to win a conference championship and play for the national title, but he was right there a couple of times.  And when you stop to think about it, how many college football teams only WISH they were in that position?  If winning championships were easy everybody would be doing it.

Some of the coaching decisions were a little maddening, but every fan of every team sees things the coach should have done differently.

Of course, it all depends upon who they get as coach to replace him (and who that coach wants for assistants),  but I think there is still a lot of hope that Mizzou can maintain their present level...a down year now and then, plenty of good but not great years, and a really great year where they have a chance to break through and win it all.  Personally, I would like to see them go with Odum rather than going outside.  They need somebody who will maintain the continuity and stability of the program, rather than somebody who comes in looking to make a big splash and then move on to a better job.

You don't think so?  Name another coach who has done more with less.  Top notch recruits have always been few and far between at Mizzou, but they get guys the top programs pass on, develop them, and win with them.

Not to take anything away from his illness because it really sucks, but I think it was poor timing to talk about his resignation after all the turmoil that has happened at Mizzzou the past few weeks.

It's what probably pushed him over the edge. My dad had non Hodgkin's lymphoma and it sucked the life right out of him. Yeah the timing might not look good but it's ignorant to even mention that. Some things are more important than football.

Oops.

Yeah I agree 100% with you. He and as far as I'm concerned Mizzou sports in general are under rated.

I agree, his health is way more important than football, which is why he probably should have resigned before the season started since he's known about the cancer since May.  He should have just announced it after the last game of the season.

On a side note, I'm not sure why the team didn't play the rest of the season like they did against a pretty good BYU team.
