I'm one of those people that understands better with visual instruction , thought there might be a few others out there as well so here's some photos

first striper hors d'oeuvre Brooder

I'm surprised how many bass anglers have never seen a gizzard shad much less know/understand what they are and how they live.

I say this because I was one of those people for many years.


Nice photos btw.  And most people call "brooders" simply striper minnows.

I fished grand lake for years using Threadfin shad catching them in the backs of creeks and mud flats. I Thought they were probably about the same, had no idea the difference in size until a few weeks ago.

I had not tried netting threadfin until this year.  They don't live very long and definitely need a round tank. 

 

EVERYTHING is eating them right now.   They are like popcorn.  Can't eat just one.

Yeah you breathe on them and they will die but they are the best catfish and the catfish don't care if they are dead.

Nice pics jack.  totally agree btw. I've been using all 3 with  success.  I prefer the shad when I can.  But I always keep brooders in boat, just in case ?

I change out the water every 30 min or less if I have large bait so adding anything would be a waste.
