I survived locking thru the Red River FLW event as a coangler. It was so bad and so unnecessary. I was holding on for dear life and trying to keep my rods from being broken or tossed overboard. I always ask the guys riding with me to let me know if the way I am operating my boat is uncomfortable to them. I want to provide them with a fun trip NOT a bad memory. Not everybody is comfortable running upper sixties/ lower 70's. I prefer 50-55 mph most of the time. Much more economical and plenty fast enough. I prefer tm down and not hitting the switch. Best way I know to catch them.
Guest Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 It seems that boat racing mentality is spread throughout the sport. From my experience, the younger local pros with something to prove always drove the fastest. Some of the veterans are more laid back & cautious. At least the guys I was lucky enough to draw. Alfred Williams was my favorite. He was super courteous to his co angler, drove the boat like grandpa & was just a fine human being. He allowed me to cast anywhere I wanted to fish, including in front of the boat, which is unusual. I remember starting the day by losing a 5lber on topwater then ended the day losing another 5lber on a rattle trap. He was genuinely disappointed for me & offered up a few tips to help me land those fish next time around. Can't say enough good things about Alfred Williams. The sport needs more pros like him.
