J-Doc Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Sounds like a good guide. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Quillback Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 We met Steve at 8:30. 4 girls and myself. Steve was great, very patient and let the girls hook up the bait and cast it. Knowing they would flip it in the mangroves. Just a great friendly person. We caught 2 catfish, 2 snook, 1 mangrove snapper and a jack. The jack was a good fight for my little wife, she couldn't believe how small it was when she finally got it in. We had many snook on for a while with several jumping out of the water and throwing the bait. Oh! The girls caught two birds because they couldn't yank the bait out quick enough. We all just had a great time. Overall an A plus trip considering 5 people in a flats boat. Headed out with just myself and my 17 year old daughter tomorrow. Pete It's been years since I caught some of those jacks, but I remember them as being crazy hard fighters.
Gavin Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 An 8-10ld jack will wear you out on an 8wt. Fight harder than a tarpon twice the size.
Gavin Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Thinking Naples in June for Tarpon..then Ft. Meyers end of August for sure. August is not great fishing, but it's a great family trip. Last hoorah for the school teachers on that side of the family. Think I'll have someone haul my kayak down and fish more this year. Need a Surf rod too.
Members Daniel Riggs Posted April 25, 2016 Members Posted April 25, 2016 I've been living in Naples for the past three years and ironically haven't had the funds for a guided fishing trip in the gulf. I've had fun catching the saltwater fish, but haven't gotten into it real serious and only inshore and close to shore in a kayak. Jacks are a blast to catch as well as Snook and redfish. I (sadly) haven't caught a Tarpon. Use a live shrimp, let it drift into mangroves with an incoming tide and you never know what you're going to get. I do know a guide personally in the Naples area. He used to fish the pro circuit for bass but I know he has a large boat for the gulf as well. He's a genuinely nice guy with a nice family. He was taught to fish by his dad who was a bombardier in WW2. here
