Members ChiaPet Posted January 19, 2016 Members Posted January 19, 2016 It has been too cold to fish, so I have been tying up some flies for spring. My kids got me some foam for Christmas, I have never tied foam flies before, so I have been trying to get the looking good. Around here we use a lot of streamers and woolies. Here is a link to the flies, http://imgur.com/a/fYLxp. Let me know what you think.
Flysmallie Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Good looking flies. Foam flies are awesome for smallies. I saw a gurgler in there so that's good. Probably the only topwater fly you need for smallmouth. But crease flies are awesome too. And Todd's Wiggle Minnows and just plain ol foam bodied poppers. Lots of things you can do with foam. Here are a few that have all caught fish. I always go back to the gurglers though. BilletHead, Buzz and ness 3
Members ChiaPet Posted January 19, 2016 Author Members Posted January 19, 2016 Those look really good. That was my first gurgler. I will whip up some more hearing that they work well. I am hoping the ants and beetle work well for other pan fish or maybe even large mouth in my friends lake. FYI, I ordered all the materials sunday night to tie your jig/pig!

Flysmallie Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 It's just two pieces of foam folded over each other. Tie in the tail. Apply the foam to the bottom. and then fold it up and fold the top over it. It makes a huge plop and fish seem to like it. But the way the mouth is open makes it hard to pick up on a cast. Kind of need to throw a small roll cast at it then a quick backcast. It will make a big commotion without moving much, comes in handy at times.

Yours is much prettier than mine though. Yellow with black and olive marabou Would like to see that if you have a photo. Prettier doesn't gain you a whole lot if the fish's eyes. That's why I'm normally just tossing an old beat up white gurgler. Easy to replace and they like them.
Members ChiaPet Posted January 22, 2016 Author Members Posted January 22, 2016 Any chance of a step by step on this fly?
Flysmallie Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 You sure are eager. I'll do it one night next week. BilletHead 1
