Bass Enforcer Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Hey guys i just want to pick your brains. I have a humminbird 859 ci HD di and i am having a problem while in "down scan mode". Each time I activate my trolling motor my screen really blurs up but only within the cone. I can still see the detail, but again the screen is blurry. Even if I just bump the trolling motor on it will blur the screen (within the cone) in other words if I hold the trolling motor power on for an extended time eventually the entire scree will blur. That being said, I have cut a coozie cup and placed the foam between the trolling motor and the transducer to try eliminate this feed back as well as the sonar and the trolling motor is hooked to different batteries. Does anyone have any advice on what I could do? Thanks for your help.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 My Power wire for my trolling motor was laying over the transducer cable and power wire for my fishfinder and everytime i touched the troller it would mess up. I just isolated all the cables and it works perfect. Hope yours is as simple as mine was. I have read lot of tricks of people adding grounds and stuff but i never had to go that far
Bass Enforcer Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 I'll start there as that could be a simple fix. Thanks. Should this not work, if anyone else has experienced this same thing let me know and I will do those as well. Thanks again.
bobby b. Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Call Humminbird and they will give you (free) a couple of chocks to put on your line to the trolling motor. It looks like a donut and you wrap the electrical line thru it and around it a few times. Bobby
Bass Enforcer Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 I haven't got the "chocks" yet but I'm still looking at other potential problems. I think now I have isolated the problem. I thoughtperhaps Iit was being caused by my battery charger which wouldn't have made much since as each bank shouldbe Iinsulated from each other. I unhooked the charger but the problem still existed. I really don'tthink tthat isthe problem. So....I ran my trolling motor at full speed the distortion appears at first and then goes away if I keep the trolling motor going. I slowly dialed down the speed. I noticed when the trolling motor slowed down to just about half speed the distortion re-appears. I pulled the transducer off the trolling motor and separated the cable from the shafts it'still has the problem. Any new thoughts?
bobby b. Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 The electronics used to reduce the speed from full to something less causes the problem and is usually helped by the chokes. If the sensitivity is set really high some distortion will remain regardless. I'm wondering if Humminbird fixed this with the new Helix units. Anybody out there using Helix 9 yet?
GNSfishing Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I'll throw this out there, make sure that you are pulling the 12vdc from the engine battery and on its own wiring with the properly sized fuse/breaker and on the opposite side of the boat from the trolling motor wiring. Hope this helps....
