Dutch Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I'll be looking for some green fish. I'm planning to put in at the lower end for clearest water (jerks and A rigs). I've been out of state for a while so I have no idea what is going on. Is there anything I should know except that the lake is still about 10' above power pool? Wow sorry for the double post. My cursor was jumping all over the place and I couldn't tell if it posted or not and I see not way to delete it.
waterpossum Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 The lake is dropping about 3" a day. I have been working on my land for the last month just south of Ruark on H highway. I regularly drive down to check on the water level and clarity. Today the water clarity was real good. A good number of birds were working the shad around the bridges. This could be a good weekend to give it a go. 9' above power pool.
Dutch Posted February 5, 2016 Author Posted February 5, 2016 Thanks. That just change my mind about heading to the dam.
waterpossum Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I drove around Ruark east campground yesterday. The south loop was open (it was closed for a while because the water was over the road, but has receded enough now. There were several picnic benches still in the water and the water level was just below the table top and I could see the base of the table under water 3' down. straw hat 1
Dutch Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 Well we went to the dam area and fished till lunch. Water clarity was pretty good. Not a bite on anything. We loaded and had lunch in the truck on the way to Cedar Ridge. We fished there in quite off colored water that was 45° but still no bites.
waterpossum Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Thanks for the report. I'm sure better times are coming soon. The lake fishes hard with this much increased acreage. On one occasion last year I went with a friend and I guess we would have had the same report, but he managed to catch one bass on a stick bait. He had cast and put his rod down to get a sandwich and drink. After a long pause he picked his rod up and you might know there was a fish on the line.
nxs Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Dutch we went to the south ramp at Cedar yesterday. We had 2 crappie a short black and another short white. Water was colder than I was expecting. If all the fish I graphed where I caught the white were whites there is going to be some good fishing before long. The 4 we caught come off the bottom in 30' and on minnows. Couldn't get bit on anything else.
Dutch Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 nxs I made the wrong decision all day long. We were seeing bait fish and larger fish on the sonar and down scan screens. Most of them were 10-20' deep so I rarely had a bait more than 20'. We mostly used jerks and bamas.
dan hufferd Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Yep lots of suspended fish, I think they are just living at the grocery store right now. Who wants to bite a nasty lure when you have 50 million bait fish right over you ?
