He is a Bass Pro employee, and when I dropped my boat off to get the new electronics installed, he went above and beyond "just" being an employee. The installation and service was 1st class. On that trip I purchased a new trolling motor, and had them install it last week. Again, he was very helpful. And just an all around good guy. The guys that install do excellent work. The props did what we thought. I will stop by this morning. Thanks Ketchup! I really appreciate you bringing your boat to me.
Smithvillesteve Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Smalls!! I got a question for you since you work for Bass Pro. My batteries are going on their 4th year now. A friend of mine told me to replace both batteries, starter and trolling motor, after 3 years. Both batteries seem to be fine but i had a starter battery go dead on me all of a sudden 3 years ago. Is it your recommendation that i bite the bullet and go get two new batteries?
Ketchup Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Steve, I will let him answer, but will give my recent 2 week ago experience. My batteries were bought June 2013. Took the boat out thinking starting battery was getting weak. I launched and went about 2 miles from where i launched. fished for an hour. Went to fire up to head back as it was getting late. Turned the key and it just moaned. Short story is it took me over an hour to get back using the trolling motor. On top of that, the trolling battery dies literally 5' from the dock. So yes, i put 3 new batteries in knowing the others would die soon while i was on the water. Peace of mind goes along way when your on the water often. dtrs5kprs and Smalls21 2 TinBoats BassClub. I changed out my 3 AGM trolling motor batteries last spring, just because I thought I should. They were BPS, and were put in in November of 2009. They were still holding a good charge, and seemed fine. Just could not quite get past the idea of running batteries that old, but I think they were likely good to go.
Ketchup Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 I agree. This was only the 2nd time in my 27 years of boating that i recall being stranded from batteries. From now on they will all be changed every 2 years, no matter what. So if your looking for 3, 2 year old batteries in March 2018, let me know and there yours. TinBoats BassClub. Smalls21 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 peace of mind is HUGE to me. when I go fishing, I don't want to have to worry about anything but little green fish pulling my line, so usually the night before I double check my batteries, pumps, etc that way when i get to the lake, all i have to do is sit in the boat and fish
