So I have been down to schell Osage conservation area recently.  They have been cutting the brush away from the power lines down there and it got me wondering.

Can I use that wood in the camping area's or for my fire pit at home? Do they allow that? Any one know any thing?

I know I have seen people running little fires "to keep the Skeeter's away" before and they weren't any where near a camp ground.

So where they get the wood? Is that legal?

If they allow camping there you can use it there. If you want to take it home you have to go to your local conservation area office and get a permit. I cut all my firewood a whole 6 miles from my house on a conservation area that is huge. Obviously the tree has to be down. They told me to keep it around a cord a month unless I went to where they were logging and was able to take whatever I want.

How much was the permit if you don't mind me asking?

So I'm understanding that for camp fires any thing that is all ready down is fair game?

The permit they gave me was free. When I first got one they made it good for two months but now that they know me they have made it for 6 months. When I cut on conservation I have been stopped to see if I actually have a permit up to date. I run my saws there on Sunday's and never had an issue.

Idk if you can run a saw without a permit even if you use the wood at the camp sites though. Might want to check in on that one but if it's already on the ground they have always told me to take it.

Great! Thanks! That is great news.

We got a fire pit in back yard and old grill.  Now I have a source for wood other than running around town after a storm just to ask if I can clean up there broken old tree's

What town do you live in?

I burn for my wood stove which is around 90% of my heat for winter. I have a 22 ton log splitter that makes splitting an ease.
