Beautiful fish. That first one looks like it would be your 20."er. Did you measure it?

And also Arron, it is time to change your name to Hog Smallie!!

Apparently   A few guys have steered me back to my roots.  Don't get me wrong   I love walleye fishing on the river.  It's the ultimate challenge.  My 28" walleye on the meramec is the ultimate fish !   To me it makes 20" smallies seem stupid but I guess I'm a follower   I'm jumping back on the Smallie bandwagon for now.  There is a lot more to today's story.  I let a 20" go without a picture today cause it was bleeding profusely. Just had to cut it off with a Mitch craw in it's gullet deep   It sucked but oh well.  I have to believe it lived and it wasn't worth a picture to me.

I've had to cut the line a few times when using tube baits because smallies tend to do the same with them. I hate it regardless of the size. As I fished tubes more and more it happens less and less but it's never 100% avoidable especially when fishing any sort of jig and plastic combination. On a positive note...I once caught a smallmouth out of mineral fork that had an odd sore on its side.  As I checked it out more it was a hook that I'm guessing the fish had swallowed and it's body was trying to expell it. Some quick work with a sharp blade and hemostats had him back in the water and swimming away. He wasn't even bleeding when I released him.

Not from the meramec but I had to go get meat.

Looks like it was a great outing man! Do I see a walleye in there?

Yup.  Couple walleye.

That should be some good eating! The only walleye I've ever caught was out of Stockton lake about 14 years ago. My family used to own a lot out there.

I haven't been on the river all week but it looks absolutely beautiful.  The walleye spawn is over so I'm itching to chase them and hybrids.

Never caught a hybrid. I hear they're fun.
