Launched from mutton creek around 730 sunday morning for my first exploration of Stockton since I've been into bass fishing.  Spent some time in googer creek, sons creek, and some coves off main channel, and liked the area a lot.

Not much fishing success to report, caught one dink in sons creek on a NE facing bank on a shaky head, then pulled one keeper from another NE bank on a crank before the wind picked up and drove us off the lake by about 12.

Both fish were in 5-7 feet and on secondary points facing north east, so I thought I had something going before the wind ended the day.  I don't think the wind had shifted long enough to move fish into the wind blown banks, but 2 fish does not a pattern make...

Enjoyed everything but the wind, it's definitely a different beast relative to a windy day on TR, but I'll be venturing back to Stockton a lot in the coming weeks I'm sure

That first voyage is the toughest. Trying to find a good spot to stop and try when a lot of the water looks fishable. Glad you made it out. As we stated before, the wind is different on Stockton than any of our area lakes. Your first few trips will be trying to locate areas that hold fish for that time of year.

Don't get discouraged, it takes a few to get it figured out. After fishing Stockton for a year I sold my little bass boat and bought a deep v with full windshields and a trolling motor with a spot lock feature. That way I can easily stay on those windy points (Hint) Now it is a lot more fun to not catch fish.

I'll more than likely be going back this weekend and giving it another go, but might launch from cedaridge this time.  Maybe this time the wind will cooperate and allow me to stay more than a few hours :)

Thanks for advice and encouragement,

Nick

Yes always watch the wind forecast

You need to practice cation crossing lake

I like  to drive on a 45 degree or so   To a point then  turn back  and run at another 45 to the other side

Stockton has real nasty rollers

hit cross ways - has been known to tear boat up
