wily Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I just got back from taking my two boys (11 & 14) to roaring river camping this past weekend -- i agree with flysmallie when he says let them fish and you watch and help when needed. it will be tempting for you to grab their rod but just let them do it. my kids fish roostertails early for the dumb one's and then switch to a jig or megaworm on spinning rod or switch to fly rod...they were catching them pretty good on a size 14 renegade last weekend in the afternoon -- roaring river is fishing great by the way. the water is perfect. also -- let the kids explore -- take them on hikes and discover things also -- both kids will most likely be different -- one might want to fish all the time -- and the other might be happier playing with rocks or something. it doesnt matter keep the focus on nature and have a great time. enjoy it because they grow up fast
Members fmcbrandon Posted April 6, 2016 Author Members Posted April 6, 2016 Wily, You are so right, they do grow up fast. I am so excited for this trip. It will be our first father sons trip to go trout fishing. Memories to last a lifetime! ness 1
bassfisher Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Orange and white power balls garlic scented, all you need for the kids to catch trout in zone 3, plus the area is less crowded.
Members fmcbrandon Posted April 7, 2016 Author Members Posted April 7, 2016 Bassfisher, Would you use floats with teh powerballs? i have never fished them.
wily Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 make a mini carolina rig -- use and 1/8 or so egg sinker -- then a swivel -- then 2 foot or so of line to your hook. i think we use size 8 hooks. the sinker stays on bottom -- and the power bait floats up.
