slab slinger Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Set out yesterday to hunt the woods for a while and found a few. It was alot of searching and not much finding. Went to my usual spots and nothing down low around the ashes in the creek bottom. Went and checked the old homestead elms nothing there yet either. So I knew then it was gonna be a long hike to the ash ridge. Started in the holler and hunted up the ridge to the top. Notta one on the ash trees heading up the ridge. Hit the top and made it to the flat and bingo finally found one. Hunted out the ash flat and ended up finding 67 and my dad found a sack full as well. I dont know how that 65 year old man keeps up but he sure does. Gave the land owner a mess and still brought home a good mess as well. Found alot of dry ones, some falling apart, and some just no good. I left alot of small ones to see if the rain next week makes them grow big enough to eat. Seen alot of strutting and heard alot of gobbles early should be good Monday morning. Good luck. BilletHead 1

Al Agnew Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Keep an eye out for oyster mushrooms. The tree stump in the yard that produced a nice cluster last November has one big one growing from it now. slab slinger 1
slab slinger Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 Thanks BilletHead. He's all boy for sure. Had to really watch him with that pocket knife yesterday. He was trying to carve and cut every stick in site. Haha. Al Agnew. We love oysters as well. I didn't find any last fall though. Usually find some on a few trees I know of every year but they never showed last fall. Was a surprise to see the sulfer out in spring. I usually don't find them till fall but guess I need to look for those as well in spring.
