Members CrappieMaster24 Posted April 18, 2016 Members Posted April 18, 2016 Has any one else noticed a decline in quality crappie on table Rock this year? Maybe it's just me, but I can't ever remember a year in at least the past 10 that was this bad. Catching lots of crappie but majority are shorts, water temp was 64 today in flat creek, usually they are in full swing right now. Just wanted to see if anyone else hAs been having trouble. I've caught them in 4 feet of water then I'll catch them in 12-15. There is no real pattern it seems. Maybe the cold fronts we've had recently?
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 The last few times i have been i have got 10 or so keepers every trip but lots and lots of shorts. Maybe this is just one of those years.. next year and the one after should be great. Then again maybe they are just gonna run later than usual (hoping) CrappieMaster24 1
Members CrappieMaster24 Posted April 18, 2016 Author Members Posted April 18, 2016 I hope so too man, I'm used to taking home (with my dad) two limits of 12-14" crappie not these 9" fish that we have to release lol
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Gotta think as it as a positive thing.Every short i catch i just think about how much better it will be in a year. That being said only about half of all i have cleaned were males, so things may just be runnning a little late this year CrappieMaster24 1
Members jcioni Posted April 18, 2016 Members Posted April 18, 2016 I've had good luck on several trips fishing the Point 15 area, however no luck up Flat Creek. Crappie have been heavy, even short fish. Must have fed well over the winter. I used to do well on Flat Creek, but no so this year.
Members CrappieMaster24 Posted April 18, 2016 Author Members Posted April 18, 2016 How deep are they?
Nitro 750 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I have been catching more short crappie this year than I usually do. Like you said there is no real pattern, you catch on here and one there and from upon the bank out to 10 to 12 feet. Them 9.5 inch crappie this year should be keepers next year.
Devan S. Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I'm seeing the same thing. I may catch 10 shorts for every keeper. Even then my keepers may only be 10 1/4" just had a real lack of any size to them but lots of numbers.
merc1997 Bo Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 i think some can be attributed to fishing pressure, and the other thing is that because of lack of cover, many crappie have become open water shad eaters as the bass have done. bo
Members CrappieMaster24 Posted April 19, 2016 Author Members Posted April 19, 2016 The keepers I did manage were nice ones! 12-13 each. And all were females besides one. Those are the size I'm used to catching but I guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching ? magicwormman 1
