I will also say though. In public land those people have just as much right to be there as anyone.  But if a guy walks up and sees someone already hunting a bird they should leave. But I can't blame them for hearing a bird and going after it if they didn't know anyone was hunting it.

I've hunted the area around Hulston mill a few times. We hike back a couple miles and rarely see anyone else. I've thought about bringing a boat just to have an easier access to the area. Turkey hunt in the morning. Nap, then fish in the afternoon.

One time wile fishing Stockton in the Spring I was working a bank and there was a turkey just hammering it 40-50 yards on shore. The thought did cross my mind that I could get sprayed with pellets if anyone was hunting that bird from the other side.

I hunted from a boat Saturday, I don't see any problem with it, public land is public land whether from truck or boat we got on several different birds without running into anyone or any problems, its part of hunting public land. if you don't wanna fight people then buy or lease, just my 2 cents.

angler do you have any advice for which direction for people to setup and direction to shoot?

Reason is i have heard of people checking there guns for sight  and shooting across the lake at big rocks  and see how short they come to the target? by the splash !

seems wrong.... but  they also have as much right to be there and I? was fishing this week and a fellow was shooting  his pistol  id say 120 times id say   on corp land  and below a lake neighbor hood     put my mind to this thought?

Every place you hunt is going to be somewhat different in the amount of land there and how close the water or a house is.  I have known of folks who "patterned" their shotgun on water in a cove, very stupid.  As for the hunter I would certainly have my back to something protecting me if possible, and try to keep shots away from water and any known housing, but again sometimes you don't have too many options as to how you set up, it happens too quick.  If you have the opportunity to tie an orange flag above you that is a good idea, but again turkeys don't always abide by anyones plan.  Hunt defensively, on public land there is always the chance of having someone walk, or boat up to "your" bird.  Is it very bad manners to try to call a bird away from another hunter whom you know is hunting it, yes, is it illegal, I cant think of how but it would sure tick me off.  And to me regardless of how effective it can be the concept of using a turkey fan to hide behind while crawling up on a turkey is crazy, seems like a great way to get shot.

I never set up towards the water and typically you can tell the difference between a person calling and the real thing. Always respect other hunters and boaters, I never hunt close to another parked boat or if I can hear someone else calling. There is plenty of land and birds to hunt without running the risk of injury.

Good advice  you  two.     I agree you should be able to hear the difference in  a excited Tom and a call 

guns don't really hurt people. ..... It always the person that's handling them.
