Kayaked down the James the weekend. It always seems to me that the floods fill in more holes than they dig out. Its like if you were in your living room watching TV, got up to get a drink from the kitchen and when you came back someone rearranged all the furniture. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. Back to my report. The river was up a little and moving but I probably caught my weight in goggle eyes, a few smallmouths and one really nice smallmouth. Caught them all on crankbaits, on the pause. The big one deep in a hole with a deep diver.. When I took out there were 8 kayaks waiting to put in. Seems like everyone has kayaks now days.Took pictures of a few and released them all. Great day to be out on the river

Love to hear that the gogglers are doing well.  Floods change stuff it's what they do, always hate to see any creek or river getting choked by gravel

Small floods are usually bad...they just move gravel enough to settle it in the deeper, slower water.  Big floods have always seemed to me to be better for scouring out holes, blowing the gravel out of them and piling it up on the gravel bars and even out into the bottoms.  On the other hand, big floods move a lot of new gravel into the river as well.

I feel ya. Every time I think I have it figured out, I don't! I've caught more goggle eye this spring than ever. Great report and good pics.
