Quillback Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Got out today with board member Huntest, we fished from 0530 until 1230. Top water bite just wasn't as good today. We caught fish, had somewhere in the area of 45-50 by the time we left, with 10 or so keepers, and normally I would say that's a good number of fish, but it just wasn't as good as it was last week. Maybe it's just a one day slow down, but I know that the great top water bite won't last forever. We got most of our fish on Whopper Ploppers off points and cove mouths. We did spend a bit of time throwing Ned's and picked up several fish on the Ned. Had one or two fish on jigs, spoons and the c-rig with a Speed Craw. Mix of spots and largemouth, with a couple of smallies. Water temp at the surface really jumped, it was at 74 when we left. Water is still that stained green color that it has been for the last couple of months. dtrs5kprs, huntest, mixermarkb and 3 others 6
rps Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I completely understand the dilemma. You say, "Why yes, we caught 45 to 50 fish with 10 keepers. No, the fishing wasn't that good." The Rock can spoil you. But she only does so to disappoint you later. I still remember the June I caught over 20 bass in excess of 5 pounds on top water baits. On several days I had more than one. As of now, that was 12 years ago, and I am still trying to repeat. Muddy Water, huntest, mixermarkb and 1 other 4
Mitch f Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Yeah, this is an exceptional year it seems....don't know why, other than the weather and maybe a huge flood in December. The Meramec has been pretty much as good as I've seen it in a while. Table Rock seems to be on fire too "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Hammer time Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 45-50 sounds like a awesome day! Way to go! Thanks for the report!
