I'm prone to sucking gravel so I never bother with doing anything outside of keeping my grates straight. My boat would run 42-43mph down streams with brand new grates and it still runs that now that they aren't perfectly straight due to eating some rocks and bumping some logs. It's not worth it to me to do all of that extra work when it will be ruined the first time you eat a rock. Thanks for the Pdf. Called CowTown and Cody said 415 for stainless impeller and 45-50 for the wear ring. Said no charge to install. I don't think it would be bad to do myself with all the youtube videos out there. Just need to find a place to purchases the impeller. He also Said for an 18ft with my motor, 30-35mph is about right. Thanks
Flatbottom Boy Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 What kind of trolling motor do you have? I just went to a wireless and pulled the recessed tray out of my boat. If you are looking for one I can go get some measurements and see if it will fit your foot control.

I have the minn Kota Edge 70lb. I was researching installing a i-pilot type but after doing some researching and handling of it I realized that there is no rope. This raised a big flag to me as what are you suppose to do in the river when the river gets shallow. Most people pull the rope up half way and it pulls the motor up a bit, then drop it back down when you get past the shallow. The i-pilot's you have to bend over and raise the head up with one hand and try to still use it. on a lake it is no problem, but a river seems a little difficult to use. What trolling motor did you go with. Cowtown told me he would have to take a look at the boat to recessed the trolling motor. I can see under the storage area and the boat tends to get a little shallower at the bow of the boat. I don't want to attempt it by myself and really want them to feel it out to make sure it can be done. Curious, how do you handle pulling the head of the trolling motor up when you get in shallow water. I really want to get one of these i-pilots.
Flatbottom Boy Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 I have the kota power-drive V2 Ipilot. When I have to move to the bank I just hit the motor release and pull back on the motor to get the prop up shallow. When Im in shallow coves fishing Ill actually hike it up by the shaft to a few inches below the surface. Fishing shallow rivers would be a pain with it for that reason. But if you have deeper water rivers or tailwaters all the other functions of this motor would most likely shine...especially the spot lock. Another gripe I have with it though is attaching the transducer to the darn thing. I find myself having to constantly watch it so it dont rip the cable in half, or when Im pulling it up I have to be careful not to pinch the cord. Ive had it in the water 4 times and Im pretty in love with it, besides those couple things I will fix or adapt to. grizwilson 1
Seth Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Minnkota is coming out with the Ultrex, which gives you the best of both worlds apparently. I'll be very interested in this one. I'm sure it will cost an arm and a leg though.http://www.outdoorhub.com/news/2016/07/08/minn-kota-ultrex-best-worlds/
BassMaster#1 Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 It still doesn't look like like this has a cable to pull the motor up when getting close to shallow water. I like the idea of getting the powerdrive and adding the wireless foot pedal for &100 and purchasing the i-pilot. To resolve the fish finder cable you would need to get the universal sonar V2 option and run you fish finder cable through the slot for a cable and this will prevent the cable from snapping off or twisting around the shaft. The Terrova is a nice setup, but then again no cable option. Guess a guy would just have to reach down and pull the head when getting close to really shallow water on the meramec then put it back down when in a little deeper water. Would be really nice to have that spot lock option
Flatbottom Boy Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 The powerdrive I bought was preinstalled with Ipilot. I would probably just go with a regular foot control though if primarily fishing shallower rivers. Or wait till that awesomeness Seth posted comes out. Im with him though...its going to be expensive at first BassMaster#1 1
Seth Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Yep, it's expensive..... Ultrex MSRP: $2199.99-$2799.99. Flatbottom Boy and BassMaster#1 2
