Mike jones Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 He has been with the AGFC for a long, long time. I will try to get a phone number for him tomorrow and send it to you in a message.

"You have problems if you think it's fun to see dead bass floating around." Seriously. What a darn stupid comment. Like I originally stated, if you have such a deep concern, take it up with the AGFC and get summer tournaments ban. Ive got an idea...why don't you show up at prairie creek this Saturday morning at the Everett team trail tournament and protest them having a tournament. There will be around 160-170 boats there. I'm sure that would go over well.... Now why would I take it up with AGFC? Why would they ever wanna ban summer tournaments? Do you not think at all? How do you think they make their money? They need more people fishing, not less. They don't care about ethics or common sense or dead bass. Again, we're gonna have to agree to disagree on this topic.

A guy keeps some small bass to eat and everyone screams "foul". But 100 tournament boats kill a bunch of big bass and nobody bats an eye. This is what's wrong with america.

But 100 tournament boats kill a bunch of big bass and nobody bats an eye. This is what's wrong with america. We need to address ALL the issues that negatively affect our fish populations with equal diligence --- not waste time debating which is worse. In a perfect world, tournament organizers should be responsible enough (and a FEW are) to either suspend derbies during the hot season or come up with some sort of system like Phil suggested that allows for immediate release of the fish. But, as we all know, the world is far from perfect and neither of those scenarios are likely to happen. Tournaments will go on in adverse conditions because no matter how much some CLAIM to love the resource, they love fun and money more so they're gonna keep entering derbies and dragging fish around in hot livewells, bagging them in far too little water for the weigh-in and then tossing them (literally) back at the shoreline where the water temp is near boiling and oxygen levels are nil and none. Secondly, MLF-style scoring isn't likely (in my opinion) to ever come down below the professional level for at least a couple of reasons. You will never find enough marshals/observers to ride along because it just isn't a lot of fun to go watch someone else fish all day/night. An even bigger reason is the concern of cheating. Yes, cheating can still occur in a traditional derby where the fish are brought in and weighed, but apparently there is something to be said for the cheater to actually have to produce the fish in the flesh. Seeing is believing, it seems. Tournaments are all about numbers, as the amount paid in entry fees directly determines the payout. And tournament organizers aren't willing to risk losing ANY percentage of numbers because they are already very, very low. The recent season-ending Central Pro Elite derby at Stockton Lake drew only 36 anglers. Therefore, only seven places were paid and it's probably safe to say that only first place ($2,500) and second ($1,500) recovered their expenses for several days of fishing/lodging/eats/tackle/entry fee, etc. So at least for now, and probably a lot longer in my opinion, nothing is going to change about when and how tournaments are conducted. Didn't really disrespect you. And I can tell you these same things in person just as well as on this forum. I'm just stating some cold hard facts. It's not an opinion that a LOT more bass die in summer tournaments than at any other time of the year. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Sorry if I offend or upset you with my bitter truths. Grow some thicker skin.
RyanG Posted June 21, 2016 Author Posted June 21, 2016 Should have seen this coming a mile away, a little report with a suggestion to make sure people take care of fish in the summer heat turns into this. That's fine, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. My final say in this is, just pay attention to your fish and do your best to keep em healthy. Whether you fish tournaments or not I don't care. People will or they won't. But making sure people know how to take care of their fish is something I think needs some attention every now and again and that's what this was about. A little education for those that may read this and don't know any better, lord knows most won't post so you never really know who's paying attention. Maybe a young angler will read this and pay more attention. That's all I want. Lance34, mojorig, Champ188 and 2 others 5

Mike jones Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Thanks...it will be a hot one for sure!! If the bass aren't cooperating with my daughter and me by lunch time, we will be at JJ's on the water eating!! I always try to make our tournaments together enjoyable even if we aren't catching them very good...because I know one day soon it won't be 'cool' to fish tournaments with her Dad. Lol!!!
