i was going to suggest both quill and champ, but quill has chimed in and champ has been mentioned.  either of those two could give you really great info.

Drove over and looked at a house in BV today.  I hadn't realized that it is a bedroom community or that it was this populated.  A lot of house for the money though.  I hope to get to Bull shoals this week also.

BTW, they weren't surfacing early but would hit a fluke around a dock.

Hey Pepe, here's the stuff that matters to me and Donna about Bella Vista ...

1. Golf is still a pretty good deal despite a 30 percent increase in greens/cart fees at the beginning of the year. You pay $40 to play 18 holes before twilight (2 p.m. during daylight savings time, 1 p.m. during normal time) and $30 during twilight.

2. The lakes are OK for catching a few fish when time doesn't allow a longer trip, but they are nothing like they used to be. The whiny property owners around the lakes will raise a fuss anytime they see a blade of grass sticking out of the water, so the POA aggressively attacked all of the submergent vegetation that was fueling the robust bass populations of old. The big lake (Loch Lomond) is now basically a swimming pool year round with water so clear and free of anything on the base end of the food chain that it's just not a healthy environment for fish anymore.

3. Some of the housing is getting very old ...close to 50 years ... and is attracting some not-so-desirable folks, including drug dealers. That's certainly not unusual in this day and time but any prior insulation against this is now gone. It's still a very nice place to live but you want to be picky about which areas you choose.

4. Obviously, we are close to anything urban you could want ... Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville. Medical care is pretty good but still a bit stretched to meet demand. For really serious stuff, like both of us having cancer a few years back, we gladly drive the 2 hours to Tulsa.

Have you checked out Holiday Island? That by far is my favorite place on Table Rock. Quite, remote but not too far out IMO. I can never get over how much you can get for so little. It is a trip to get to Walmart but if you are looking for a true retirement community that is where I would suggest. It is the only place I know a middle class working man can retire with a lake in his back yard a golf course in his front yard and to boot they have the best and cleanest boat launch in the area and it is free.

I have never meet anyone in that area that did not treat me like a long lost friend, great people even though some are from California.LOL

I currently live in Rogers and have since 2001, but my next move will be to Holiday Island. Even though old hippies are fun to talk with there.
