joeD Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Why is women's beach volleyball seemingly the cornerstone of the TV Olympic experience? That they have to play at midnight just to give us prime time, live, coverage. Two weeks from now, Mrs Walsh and her bikini bottom will still be on, a prolonged semi final. Mitch f 1
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 15, 2016 Root Admin Posted August 15, 2016 What's eye opening about these games are the records being set - blown out of the water. Swimming records beat by 2 seconds??? That's unheard of. Winning in gymnastics by 8 points?

Mainly because it's one of the most entertaining sports there is in the summer Olympics. You want to watch them win by 50 in basketball? I watched fencing for some reason the other day. I have no idea why. Swimming. Snoozefest. I even recorded some archery matches, which I like. BORING. If you can get past just watching their butts in volleyball you will see that it's at least competitive. Most of them are very good. Watched the 100m and 400m last night. It was pretty good. The coverage though has sucked. Everyone was flooded with the gymnasts winning gold long before it was broadcast. Then they have other athletes going at midnight so it will be live.
joeD Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 Speaking of flooded, and flooding (ahem), we (United States) brought over 500 "athletes" (sic) to the games, way more than most civilized nations. Still, I enjoy the Olympics and have been watching every day, sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for a few hours. It satisfies a sport and competition viewing need in me that differs from watching pro baseball or basketball or hockey or golf or football. My comment about beach volleyball, was, of course, facetious (I think). I watch just the same. I think our women have more gold medals than our men. Besides Michael Phelps, what US man is NBC rallying around for a medal? (individual, not team)
