merc1997 Bo Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 ventured to the lower end last night and finally caught the deeper fish I had been seeing on the graph, but could not figure out how to get them to bite. we ended up with 12 keepers. four lmg's, 2 k's, and the rest brownies. most where caught in the 25 ft. range with a few 30 ft.ers and few more around 20. of the keepers, there were 4 in the 3 lb. range. best lure by far was a 1 oz. SpinJig followed by a 3/4 Blitz football jig and a 3/4 GrassJig. We also caught a few bass on a senko rigged on a 1/4 NuJig with a 1/4 slip sinker. the presense on some sort of timber was a big plus, but did catch a few on clean roll-offs. I would say that the bass on the lower end have settled into a more traditional summer type pattern. I have been seeing many bass out deeper, but have not been successful in catching them until last night. it really seems like they are a month behind in what they are normally doing. in july, we were still catching most of our bass in june type depths. I have been hearing some good daytime reports from a couple of my retired emerald beach buddies, and they have been whacking some really nice kentuckies on spoons 30 to 35 ft. as a closing note, I will add that I ran over a shad school that the top of was showing as the bottom reading on the graph for well over 1/4 of a mile. that is a monster school of shad and they were sitting out over the main lake river channel. the top of that shad school was 25 ft. bo magicwormman, Quillback and big c 3
Fish24/7 Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 got a question, what's a "roll-off"? bo are you sure it was shad? I've seen a school of lm bass that big on Bull. It wouldn't surprise me if there were HUGE schools like that in TR too

It wouldn't surprise me if there were HUGE schools like that in TR too a roll off is where you have flatter terrain go out and then have not a vertical, but begin a much steeper rate of decent. it give the bass an edge to relate to in the depth range they want to stay in. so, it would compare to a ledge on a vertical bluff, but not as drastic. it these types of edges that are the basis of if an area is going to hold catchable bass. when deep water fishing, or even shallow bass, you need to have a break line that matches up with the depth the bass are wanting to hold at. bo Fish24/7 and crazy4fishin 2
