Jmontgo1246 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I wouldn't cut through there when it's below normal pool...especially at 3 1/2 ft low. I would go around the island.

Kramr Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 And why is the water so low? I assume it's not from lack of rain, they must be drawing the lake down on purpose but for what reason? Sorry if this has already been discussed. And what is the impact on the lake as far as fishing goes? Does it help or make it worse?
Jmontgo1246 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Not sure why they lowered the lake so much...was fishing this past weekend for bass...they were still around brushpiles in 15-20 fow...could usually catch 2-3 fish out of a brushpile that was out on a flat point...big worms and jigs. Members charliehorsejigs Posted September 7, 2016 Members Posted September 7, 2016 I have heard they have an agreement with a company that regulates the discharge through the turbines at the dam. This provides really cheap electricity for the power companies. They don't care about the water level in the lake. They just want to make money off of it. It's the same situation at Table Rock. They keep running turbines there and mess up the fishing on Taneycomo.
Kramr Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Would hope there is a maximum amount they can take at any one time. I can see how it would mess up Taneycomo.
Flysmallie Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Anyone know if the big rock island at Cedar Ridge campground is accessible by foot at this water level? I'm almost sure it is but I want to make sure before I drag my kid up there to take some pictures.
Members JRay Posted September 7, 2016 Members Posted September 7, 2016 It is accessible by foot now. Probably a good 2 feet of the saddle exposed right now. Flysmallie and dan hufferd 2
Members Ricochet15 Posted September 8, 2016 Members Posted September 8, 2016 I was wondering if this had anything to do with the draw down? http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Media/News-Releases/Article/908212/20th-annual-stockton-lake-cleanup-event-scheduled/ I could be wrong just seemed to coincide timing wise and right now there would be no issues getting around on the banks.
MOPanfisher Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 They generally time the clean up for late summer, which usually coincides with lower lake level. The lake was not lowered for the clean up though. If you look at the hydropower lakes right now many are somewhat low. SWPA is generating and we have had some rains but not much in the way of run off precipitation, at least nothing beyond the quick rise and fall in an isolated area.
