Who wants to own a motor that goes into "save ME not the passengers" mode... over every little piddly thing?   And even if it does go into safe mode simply turning the key off then back on resets it.  No computer re-programming required.

For future reference, can you just replace the cap? I've  already done this once because the cap cracked and the cap is what holds the float. Of course the tank would still probably need to be removed and drained to get the washer out, but the cap is a lot cheaper than $180.

Casey,  you either have a EFI or carb Merc.  The system on the Optimax DFI is different.  

In your case, yes only the cap needs replaced, not the tank.  And that system does not have the washer adhered to the float like the Optimax oil reservoir.  The actual sensors on those, like yours, never fail, the caps just crack and cause leaks.
