Hey folks, found these this evening, growing in clumps up an old dead  hackberry- of course only on the side of the tree rampant with poison ivy.  Knocked some down with a stick, reverse-bagged 'em dog poo style.  Are they oysters?  And if so, am I gonna wind up with PI in my nose, eyes & throat if I cook them do to the oils they likely received on their tumble off the bole?  Or does all that nastiness break down with heat?

thanks fellas

Looked up the oil in poison ivy, which is called urushoil. Found out that the boiling point of urushoil is 200 deg celsius or almost 400 deg F. Unlikely that you would be able to cook it off. The urushoil can be removed with soap and water, but that won't do the mushrooms any justice. So the issue is really how much of this oil may actually be on the mushrooms after a brief contact as they fell from the wood. If you are really allergic, you may not want to eat them.

If you eat them or not, it's a good find. All of the oysters that I have come across lately are a slimy smear on the host wood. I missed them by several days or a week or more.

Thanks fellas.  I'm not terribly allergic, a few spots and lines if I walk through the stuff but nothing tremendous.  We'll see how it goes :)

Agree Oysters. Not a favorite but abundant and OK.. OYO on the PI issue. Can't get near the stuff. Would not want PI in my mouth or throat. Had a dumb butt boot Marine on my crew who got clap of the yap in the PI. We all had a good laugh at his expense, but we were worried. Skinny guy and he lost 15-20lbs before he could shovel food into his pie hole again.
