Stump bumper Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Anyone tried these? Thinking about getting some cheep blanks and trying to cover them with jig skinz instead of paint. I am thinking of sealing the blanks with a clear coat then sealing the skinz with a clear coat. Barlow's is selling them now. Not sure how much I would save after buying all the materials but the lure blanks such as Sammys are so so cheap compared to the finished lure, looks like I could't go wrong. I seem to change split rings and hooks on any lure I buy now to get them to do what I want, why not start from scratch? Learning to paint would be better but who has that kind of time?
jolicious Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 probably would have $5 or so in them total. not bad at all
jolicious Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Dang it, Stump. I ordered a few yesterday.. I'll put up some pics once they arrive and I find a few minutes to apply. Dan the fisherman 1
jolicious Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 ***DISCLAIMER*** I am simply a weekend angler who likes to tinker with baits. The issues I have outlined below are from operator error (ME). Stump: I got a few in, and tried them (couple of pics to follow). I figured out a few things as I went (I added comments to each picture). Overall, it's a neat concept. In a pinch or time crunch, I see lots of benefits. But, for most times, I am going to stick to painting blanks.
moguy1973 Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Wow, those look great. I don't think the fish will care if the front of the bait doesn't have the skin on it. If i was a fish I'd eat them. Quillback Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 I'm thinking the same thing as Moguy, probably not noticeable to fish that little bit being left off. They look good!
Champ188 Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 A fine job, indeed. Thanks for the pics! Oh, and some fine-looking furry fellows you have there. jolicious 1
Stump bumper Posted November 2, 2016 Author Posted November 2, 2016 Thanks, I really like your color choices. I will give it a try. jolicious 1
Stump bumper Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 Just following up to see if you tested those on new lures on the Lake and how they worked?
