Will try to get there also, if you see a black and white Nitro come over and say HI, then go somewhere and find fish because where I am is where they were yesterday. LOL
Members Alumacraft190 Posted November 4, 2016 Members Posted November 4, 2016 Kansas guy here for the weekend- staying at rocky branch, started out ford creek this morning just before sunrise without anything to show for it. Marked a few out in front so we gave it a shot. From there went to point 8 and marked nada so we moved to point 9 where we marked a loy of bait and some fish so we gave it a shot for 45 mins or so in front of coppermine to point 9 with nothing. Im presuming they just havent gotten that far south yet, will focus more north from ford creek this evening/tomorrow.
Dan the fisherman Posted November 4, 2016 Author Posted November 4, 2016 Got out early this morning. Darn wind was blowing pretty good but we tried n e ways with hopes of it would lay down. Of course it didn't. Tried different spots and nothing.... told my brother I had a good shad spot so I jetted over there and netted 7-8 of them and went cruising. Didn't take long and we both hooked up on down lines. We ended up with just those 2. It completely went dead an hour after that. Still seen fish but they would just swim up and look and swim back down. After seeing that several times I decided to call it a day. Sun was up pretty high and just figured they were done feed till evening. Top water wasn't there so we just had to adapt to the conditions. Glad it payed off. Good luck out there fellas and stay safe. Lance34, Stump bumper and Johnsfolly 3
Members Alumacraft190 Posted November 4, 2016 Members Posted November 4, 2016 Glad to hear I'm not crazy Dan, that is a lot like I was seeing out there around Ford Creek...fish in 20-40 FOW and very little higher in the water column than that. Unfortunately I couldnt come up with shad so we are brooders all the way. Had probably 2 or 3 times we saw fish come up and take a look just to drop back down on the locator.
Members Alumacraft190 Posted November 5, 2016 Members Posted November 5, 2016 Tough go today... but incredible weather this evening, nothing beats the sunset over this lake in my eyes. So thats the good, now for the bad: went north and mysteriously marking loads of fish in 40-60 fow around 6:00, as the evening wore on they seemed to come up in the water column to the 20-30 we had seen most the rest of the day. We marked them consistently but still didnt get any on downlines and never saw anything topwater.

I don't have a clue though.
Old plug Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Wonder about that Gar there or a few Aligator gar in southern Missouri Maybe you got one of those over there. If its less than 4 ft in is a native gar. A real underrated sports fish.
Members Alumacraft190 Posted November 5, 2016 Members Posted November 5, 2016 Well new day, found new fish, same result. We started in at 6am this morning and found loads of fish that appeared active feeding on bait just below rocky branch marina. Fish were between 20 and 35 fow, but much like yesterday they never came up to topwater. Had down lines all around them but they werent interested in brooders this morning. There was us and 3 other boats fishing a small area so I was making longer passes than I would have preferred, and the fish had cleared out within an hour of finding them. I must say, I'm stumped and running out of time.
Stump bumper Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Sometimes they get dialed into the shad and even if you use the wrong shad they won't hit. I have been stuck in that loop myself, try to find some gizzard shad in the back of the creeks early they seem to be candy for the big fish. I have not even had the small bass look at my brooders, good luck and try again when water temps are in the 50s that is where they turn on, Anyway it runs the shad up into shallow water to find warmth and the big fish follow and are easier to find. Everywhere I have been from point 5 to point 10 the water was 70.3 degrees from 100 feet to the back of coves, with no reason to go shallow or deep there are just too many places to look and like you have found they don't stay in one place very long. I think I will just wait for a good freeze.
