Dan the fisherman Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Got out yesterday morning for a few hours with a buddy. The morning started out good with a hook up in the first ten minutes. We landed that fish and had a couple more hook ups but they didn't make it to the boat. The wind picked up after that and the bit shut down. Water temp was 56-57. We fished up river. I have a feeling I should have been near the islands though. But I guess I shouldn't complain sense we did get one. I just always have the lingering feeling I could have done better some where else. I could have remedied that and hit the islands if I had the time yesterday, but had things to do at noon so was unable to try. Pretty much it boils down to the fish being scattered, got the one yesterday up river and I got one in the islands Sunday. Go figure lol. Remember with water temps in the 50s, life preservers r a must this time of the year. Good luck out there fellas and stay safe. Quillback, Mitch f, Lance34 and 2 others 5

Haven't been able to get the boat out for a month now for various reasons (opening of pheasant season in Kansas, travel for holiday's, etc.) but did finally buy a cast net. It's just a five footer so hopefully not too small but I thought a good starter size to learn with. Will get some dry land practice in and will give it a go on catching some shad. Goal is to catch a striper before the end of year. Thanks Dan the fisherman 1

It's not like the Dakota's but there are area's that seem to hold birds every year. We were around the Sterling and Lyons area and one section of CRP must of had 15-20 roosters x 2 on hens and 5 big covey's of quail. That was the best field and probably because it had the river on one side where the quail were and uncut milo on another.

Quillback Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I've heard the pheasant hunting has been good the last couple of years, had some good rain out there that busted the drought. I have a bird dog, but won't be able to go tis year because of a bad knee. Getting that knee fixed soon, so I hope to get back after them next year. Mike you may want to scout out that new AR wildlife area, the Devils Eyebrow, which is up off the Indian Creek area, I have seen turkeys up there by the lake in the past. I don't know what the regs are for that area, so you'd need to check.

bluebasser86 Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 No pheasants left in Kansas, coyotes ate them all, don't bother.
Stump bumper Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 I was driving from Minot, ND to Fargo a couple of months ago and saw a coyote snatch a pheasant in mid air. Anyway plenty of birds of any type you are looking for left in the up there. I think pheasant is the number one road kill in ND. How did Dan's Striper thread get to be a bird thread?
