Had issues recently with power trim sticking when cold.  It's gotten worse so I know I need to do something before my next trip and it ruins a day on the water.  I  can hear power going to it, but initially it will not engage and move (up or down.) Once it engaged I had no further issues all day.

I have somewhat limited abilities mechanically but also want to save money on shop fees if it's a simple diagnosis and fix or replacement.

Any advice would be greatly apprrciated,

Thanks guys

Mechanic   Is my advice don't cost your self a pump

one time I arrived to my shop  I got out to raise the door

with pump screaming    I assume it had been doing it for 1 hour  while I was listening to  a cd

it got hot enough to fade the plastic cap

OK.   If you can hear the relays clicking when you activate the switch, but the trim motor only runs sometimes or when it runs it sounds weak, then you need to clean and tighten your battery connections and inspect the black ground wire connection coming from the trim relay harness (make sure it is clean and tight).  If it still doesn't operate after that then the voltage needs to be tested throughout its path to make sure the trim motor itself isn't failing.

If there is no "click" when the switch is activated, then you either have a failing switch, a bad connection in the main harness, or bad relays.

Typically anytime something electrical works SOMETIMES, or works only when it's warm but not when it's cold.....It is usually the result of a bad ground connection somewhere in the circuit.

Great advice, haven't had any trim problems of yet but if I ever do I'll remember this advice! Thanks bro!
