Members Bigfishscott Posted January 30, 2017 Members Posted January 30, 2017 Bite was slow but steady. Caught 12 keepers. Best five maybe 16-17lbs. One here one there nothing bunched up. Not aggressive at all. Fished wind, calm and everything in between. Didn't seem to matter. Flatter banks, steep bluffs and everywhere in between. No pattern at all. As shallow as 8fow to 30fow. It will make you scratch your hair out!!! Still a great day for January!!!! Best one of the day 5lb-4oz fat gal!!! Caught two nice golden slimes!!! Jbrant, JestersHK, moelkhuntr and 5 others 8
Hammer time Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Very nice! Thanks for the report and pics! Those are some nice muskies!
Ketchup Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Nice outing. Not much matches the initial thrust of the musky. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Members Muskie Bob Posted January 31, 2017 Members Posted January 31, 2017 Nice bass and muskies. I've never fished muskies this early in the year. I know several are caught using bass lures. Just wondering what lures you caught the muskies. Thanks, Bob
Members Bigfishscott Posted February 1, 2017 Author Members Posted February 1, 2017 Bob, I caught them on an a-rig
Members Bigfishscott Posted February 1, 2017 Author Members Posted February 1, 2017 Bob I'm not a musky fisherman at all but for as many as I catch every year maybe I should be. We caught one weekend before last that was bigger than that one. I had one January day where I caught 7 in an hour. By far the bait I've caught most of them on is a #9 shad rap. I don't know what their attraction is to that lure but it flat catches them. I think they like stealing the shad raps from you so they can put the foil on their teeth and show their buddies their GRILLZ?
MOPanfisher Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 It's because them suckers have a collection of my Shad Raps and they get together and compare colors. As near as I can tell the secret to catching (or in my case just hooking them) is to not fish for them, fish for bass, walleye etc. They know it and will come for your lure, at least it seems that way some times. Members Muskie Bob Posted February 1, 2017 Members Posted February 1, 2017 Thanks for the information. I will be getting a couple of #9 Shad Rap lures to try out this spring. Of course, I will keep January in mind for next year. Now, I'm looking for a few days where the weather stays close to 40 at night. I haven't ever fished on Pomme de Terre in February. So, this may be a first for me. Thanks again. And, those pictures, etc. get my fishing fever up.
Members Bigfishscott Posted February 1, 2017 Author Members Posted February 1, 2017 I never stop fishing all year unless the lake freezes over. And I can't think of a winter that I never caught musky. So why wait!!! Sore mouth a few so maybe they will leave me alone!!!?
