I ended up having bass pro match cabelas 7" version for with chrip for $650..... also got the 5" down imaging with chrip from amazon for $450.....amazon also has the 7" chrip tax free for $650.....https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00LIQWDYQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1487298403&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=garmin+sv&dpPl=1&dpID=41VpPePYcIL&ref=plSrch

This is the wrong link.  That link is for the off-shore version (if a Garmin unit ends in 3 its inland lakes, 4 its off-shore).  The correct one on amazon is: https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-echoMAP-CHIRP-73sv-transducer/dp/B017RTBVL8/ref=sr_1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1487300264&sr=1-3&keywords=garmin+73sv

I guess for my needs it looks like non-chirp will work. Especially since this unit will be my console unit. If it was going up front, I think I'd want chirp for sure for the better separation and detail. (The free installation is attractive too.)

Thanks for for all the input.

I just got one of those too. Just got home from buying it. I ended up with the older non-chirp model that bass pro had on sale. I am still pretty excited about it though.

That's what we got as well. Maybe get a chirp model next year or something, right now there's plenty of stuff to spend the $ on before chirp.
