Another drawback about Raymarine is if you want side imaging it's an add on module and a different transducer unless you get one of their more pricy units.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

I thought you bought an HDS10?  Change your mind?

I did buy one and I learned to love it. Thieves got it in January, along with the 5" Humminbird in the bow, so I went shopping minus the deductible. I caught a great sale on the Garmin through the GPSstore.

So wrong. I hope their boat sinks.

They hit several boats at the marina. One ski boat owner lost 5K in sound equipment. I have had a slip there since I came to Holiday Island in 2002. This was the first theft during that time. I will now take the big unit home with me every time.

I've had Lowrance all my life since my first green box. Currently I have an HDS 8 and 7 on the bow and also the dash. Just use the 7's for gps and back- up. My friend has hummingbirds. Like both. I hear garmin is good. Just get the biggest screen you can afford and one that meets your needs that is comfortable for you to use. I would have got a 10" screen but it blocked my view to much behind the windshield. After all of that I think they are all good anymore, just expensive. Have fun

I'll be getting new ones after summer. I'm getting HB's of the helix variety.  I have nothing against n e of the big brands, it's just what I'm used too.  I'm planning on a helix 12si at console and 10 or 12di at the bow, but not totally sure yet up front.  I fish a lot in open water for bass, whites, and striper.  I'm also going with HB because I troll a lot during the winter and I can run the iploit link feature.   It'll be nice to see which side of the boat them striper r on with side scan. I currently don't have side scan I feel it would help me a ton.

Ton?

No.

Some? Yes.  Worth the price you'll pay for those units?  Probably not.  I have side scan and only the big ones show up if you know what you're looking at.  The smaller ones still show but it's more like helping you associate the fish ta area and those fish tend to move around during a lot.

I stay on them pretty good most of the winter,  It would help if I could see them go off to the right or left. I've fished with guys with side scan and we'd see them off to one side or the other and drive straight to them and hook up.  Currently I just drive around and hope to run into them.

Funny, I see JDoc find them off every side and he still doesn't catch them.:P

One of the reasons I haven't been out much.  Lost interest, busy, and spent time towards a new hobby.  I'll be back at it this spring and summer though.
