dtrs5kprs Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 OK, I'm revisiting this again. I can get a Denali pryme dock rod 7ft ML, Mod Fast from a buddy for cheap. It is technically a crappie rod and he uses it for shallow jerkbaiting for crappie. I was thinking it could be a decent ned rod??? I am looking to have a rig dedicated to it for when I need it, when I can't get bit on anything else or when the wife is fishing. I don't want to spend a high dollar Nope. You don't want a moderate taper blank. Won't bury the hook. A drop shot rod that has a little more pop is a good start, or a walleye rod. It needs to be fast enough to get into the power of th blank for a hookset, but still have a soft enough tip to keep you from taking the bait away. DChance 1
dtrs5kprs Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Daiwa Laguna M or ML will do it, for a cheap stick. About a $30-40 rod depending on where you find it. Just went rod shopping with my cranky cowboy buddy Sunday. He ended up with a couple of 7' Cabela's sticks that are in the right power range. Fish Eagle's, I think. About $70 each.
mixermarkb Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Anyone try the Falcon Bucoo 7' "cranker spin" for the Ned?
Guest Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Anyone try the Falcon Bucoo 7' "cranker spin" for the Ned? I have that rod & it's laying around collecting dust. I either need to find a use for it or sell it.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Anyone try the Falcon Bucoo 7' "cranker spin" for the Ned? I don't let anything with "Falcon" on it near the little rig.
rps Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I don't let anything with "Falcon" on it near the little rig. Bigot. Although I do not know which rod model it may be, I am sure they make something suitable. Is there a story here?
dtrs5kprs Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Bigot. Although I do not know which rod model it may be, I am sure they make something suitable. Is there a story here? Falcon sticks tend to fish at the higher end of the ratings. Example, their M rods are quite a bit stiffer and beefier than a lot of other M rods. With their number system, something like a 4 power should be right, but the 6'6" 4 power spin is way too much rod. More of a shakey head, tube, or Fluke rod. The suggested line and lure ratings, and listed action and power, look right, but they fish above it. At least all the Falcons I own, which are Lowriders. Caras feel even tighter. That will pull baits away from fish, and break line. I also won't throw it on a Loomis again.
Ham Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Bigot. Although I do not know which rod model it may be, I am sure they make something suitable. Is there a story here? He's a Falcon Hater. dtrs5kprs and mixermarkb 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
dtrs5kprs Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 He's a Falcon Hater. Basically. I have a Lowrider casting rod I like quite a bit. And one I can't stand. Overbuilt, overpowered, mud lake, power fishing sticks. When you need that, they rock.
rps Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Purists - like yourself - should act rather than hate. Build your own, and then market what you discover. I have built the ultimate bait cast Ned rod and will give away the specifications. You should post your ultimate rods specs ... or better yet, sell them.
