dblades Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 I have some 5:1 reels but they only get used for A rigs. My crank bait reels are 8.2:1. I would rather slow down than have to speed up. I've heard that a lot but in most cases I think it's harder to maintain the concentration needed to consistently reel slower than natural all day, versus speeding up for a few seconds occasionally..
MOPanfisher Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 I am not even sure what gear ratios I own. I don't however like to switch back and forth once I have found my rhythm. Thus I seem to have several of the Pfleuger Presidents and for BC 3 old Shimano curados. Crankbaits i tend to go more by how it feels than how fast I crank.
Quillback Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 I know a good crank bait fisherman that once his CB gets down to depth will pull it forward with the rod, the reel in the slack quickly. Helps you feel that crankbait as it moves along the bottom. I'd want something that will pickup that slack quickly if I was fishing a CB that way (sometimes I do).
