ollie Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Put this over here in this forum since it is close to Kansas. I had some time Saturday night to go over to Shawnee Trails and do some fishing. Got there right at five and got my stuff together and started walking into one of my favorite ponds. I was going to bring the canoe and fish Pin Oak, but since it was windy as could be I knew it would be double there and I didn't want any part of that. So by the time I got to my pond it was about 5:30 and the fishing was on. Started throwing a War Eagle spinner bait and within 15 minutes I had the first one on. Got the bass to shore and it was right at 16" to 17". Didn't bring a tape measure but I am confidant it was around that size. Second one to hand was only like 10" and then the third one I caught was another nice one in slot as well. I ended up catching 4 on the spinner bait total and then that bite shut down. Time to switch over to something else now and it was getting closer to dark by now so I tied on a top water bait. Around the second cast I was scoring again with another nice fatty! Right at about dusk I had a nice big blow-up on my bait, but when I set the hook I got weeds back. lol All in all I caught 5 bass in about 2 1/2 hours and they all except the one were over 15". Not too bad for the night. It wasn't wham bam, but it was enough to keep it interesting. I might hit it up one more time this year, but I will probably be hitting the streams nearby soon. Oh yea, forgot to mention the ticks are out big time! Members Skell9653 Posted April 18, 2017 Members Posted April 18, 2017 Good to hear you enjoyed it! I honestly have not fished Shawnee Trails much. I've driven through there several times and thrown some casts but north of Shawnee Trails about 5 miles I have access to a lot of private strip pits. I've stopped by there a couple times I need to make it out there again. I live in Seneca so usually go over by Hallowell if I'm fishing any public pits. My new venture this next year is going to be duck hunting some of the larger strip pits over by Hallowell. I also know there's some wetland in Shawnee Trails... anyone ever duck hunt that?
ollie Posted April 18, 2017 Author Posted April 18, 2017 I'm sure people have duck hunted there, but I am never over there at that time of the year. Found plenty of shell casings near the ponds though so I know it is done.
