MOBass Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 After fixing the bow fishfinder wiring, finding the trolling motor battery with a dead cel and replacing it, and getting the 'road rash' off the prop I found another minor annoyance. The throttle only button will depress, but I can't advance the throttle. I did a search on the forum here, google, and you tube without much luck. Does anyone have experience with this situation? Motor will start, but is a bit of a bear when cold and the throttle only certainly helped on really chilly days.
Ranger520vx Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Not sure on the xr6 but did one for a buddy of mine on an Mercury don't think it was an xr6 but probably the same control. If it is these are the pieces you will need to replace they are under the center push button cover. The bad news is you have to disassemble the controller to replace them. Tried putting in pictures won't let me says to large. The parts are a plastic plunger and a metal ramp that that moves a detent ball to engage and disengage the shift cable linkage.
fishinwrench Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 Here's this again.... https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1TAvwZ3TjhfZDJiNjc5YzAtYzBhYy00MjlmLTg5NzktMjQyZDJhMGQ3YzQ1/edit?pli=1
MOBass Posted May 12, 2017 Author Posted May 12, 2017 Found someone with the same problem. Their plastic plunger had a piece brake and that was the cause. You can start the motor and it operates fine, just can't do the throttle only. Too nice to not fish right now and the old motor likes the warm weather so I'll deal with it until fall.
fishinwrench Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Stray parts floating around in your control box can cause it to lock up. Be sure to wear your kill switch, and don't follow anyone too closely, or come in hot to the ramp. grizwilson 1
MOBass Posted May 15, 2017 Author Posted May 15, 2017 I scrapped fishing to recover from life this weekend. I'll crack open the control and getting anything out of there that might be a problem and see if I can find the parts to fix it. From the description it was a plastic 'ear' of some sort that broke.
