zarraspook Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 The wife and I got to Stockton about 0930 and left at 1230 .. dragging Flickers we got 4 crappie (3=11.5", 1=12.25"); one walleye = 17.25" ; one white = @ 2lbs; and a smallmouth = 8".. We were working the windy side of secondary points in 15-16 foot of water... I could post the pictures of the empty plate, after supper, but that would be mean.... raiderfan, dan hufferd, Phil Lilley and 7 others 10 "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
Walleyedmike Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Aw come on zarraspook, I troll cranks sometimes too! I'm glad you caught some trolling flicker's. There's so many ways to catch walleye (and crappie) it's almost mind boggling. Lmt out and I bounce a lot. Come July I usually switch over to trolling cranks on lead core line. Lmt out can catch them on a bouncer all summer. Dan Hufferd jigs a spoon a lot. Gary Stanton prefers to troll cranks on lead core the majority of the time, but can put a hurtin' on them with bouncers if that's what he needs to do. There's guys jigging crawlers and minnows, if powerdive hadn't defected to Florida he'd be catching 'em with a jigging rap a lot. When i had lunch with lmt out Sunday, we talked about how neither of us generally fish deeper than 25'. Now Dan Hufferd comes along and posts that he's catching them at like 40' sometimes, or catches some casting crank baits of all things! So I guess what I'm getting at is, for guys that want to learn to catch 'em I'd recommend getting real good at a technique that you already have some confidence in, and be pretty good at a back up technique. Then, all you have to do is find the fish! Thanks for the report zarraspook, I'll be trolling flicker shad for huge crappie next time I'm down! WM Old dog 417, Hunter91, Gary Stanton and 4 others 7

The one thing I didn't say above is -- we spent the first hour searching for the active fish.. "4 those ----" title was to let the board know that there are fish to be caught - without "BB" you life away ... dan hufferd Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 All great stuff for sure. I think everyone would agree. Habitat and having confidence in your location is paramount. After that just fish the way that works. I find it entertaining to unlock the code if possible. Hey Mike I added fluke to my bag of tricks, 1/4 oz jig in a fluke woks good too. Trolling for crappie sounds like a great idea. zarraspook 1
