You guys are getting me pumped!  Thanks for the responses; I appreciate the advice.

I'll post updates throughout the trip and check in a few days before we arrive.

Funny about the spawn. Here on the Gravois it has been very tuff to find any fish in the spawing areas. They all seem to be hanging off the bank. I caught two nice sized spawnimg sized keepers yeasterday to  2 3/4. One was at15ff. I have only caught one that had a beat up tail. So yeah,  it looks like the spawn is past. Hear in the Gravois though it does not appear right now that neither the Bass or Crappie have even spawned very much. Gravois is clearing pretty fast and I have yet to find a bed or a old used one.

Temperature update: I was seeing from 68-70 degrees surface temperature at the dam area this morning. Like the first 5 miles.

I got out yesterday (noon til 4:00) and had 7 keepers and about 15 shorts fishing a spinnerbait and pitching a jig in the backends of small coves.  One was close to 4lbs. All others were just nice solid 2 - 2.5 pounders.

I didn't see any schools of fry, and I didn't see any fish on beds....which was a little confusing.

The shad spawn is definitely going on, I had shad following my spinnerbait to the boat on every single cast.

Water temps=68-71°

Wrench----- you can bet it is very confusing. Very Very strange.

My son was here and we went piddeling a bit for him to learn about new easy to use  bait casting reels. He got down here and did not have a lot of time. One of there older office buildings they have ,was broken into Friday night and the thieves  stripped every last peice of copper pipe out of it. Son said it must have been a darn crew of thieves. Hell of it is the building is sold amd they were suppose to close on it this week.

You LOZ guys should be commended. That's a lot of great advice for a new member and third times poster, not a bit of BS. One piece of advice that may not have been obvious; keep all your gear locked up at all times. The folks on this forum are generous but there are a lot of scoundrels who will steal your gear in a minute.

I was down this weekend and had a real tough time.  Only managed a couple of small whites trolling a little squarebill behind my kayak. Couldn't get the bass to bite on anything else, and I threw nearly all I had - topwaters, cranks of all depths, rattles, spinners, senkos, flukes, swim jigs, swim baits, and craws -- at all hours of the day.  I marked tons of shad schools and observed feeding activity on the schools, but couldn't buy a bite.

The only success I had came with the kiddos targeting crappie -- they were hitting minnows hard at 6-8 feet down all around the dock.

At the 31MM / confluence of Niangua and Osage, surface temps were 68 at dawn and spiked to 75 by noon. Color was still very stained.

And, I look like a lobster now. Don't forget the sunscreen!

Heard that about shad spawn, also heard bass fishing was "off the chart" good, have been crappie fishing some the last week as a bunch of the guys were down here for a week long annual trip but it's been mostly drinking and cards ?. The crappie fishing is strange with a bunch of little ones and then you will run across a few piles of good ones right up on the bank. Did have one night we went out crappie fishing and couldn't stand it after catching a nice bass on a road runner and whipped out the spook right before dark and caught them pretty good. Headed for Table Rock Thursday, hope fishing is half as good as it is here.

WW good luck at the Rock. Rumors of a blade and topwater bite. Up in the trees hardwoods to be exact.

Rigged and ready! Good thing is I don't have to take off my 20 lb test ?, and if all goes well I won't have to pick up a spinning rod
