Members JBulcock Posted May 30, 2017 Members Posted May 30, 2017 Hello All, My wife and I were thinking about taking our bass boat to Taneycomo tomorrow to do some trout fishing. We typically wade in the trophy area with our fly rods but with all the recent rains we have not been able to make it down there in a while. I have a couple of questions about boating on Taneycomo, I have read the topic on boating to the dam but just wanted some clarification. We will be coming from Springfield and wondering what is the best ramp to use? Also with how much water is being released is it pretty safe to just stay on plane and in the middle and get up to the dam or are there certain spots I need to watch out for? I have a humminbird unit with the lakemaster chip which will help me find the channel if needed. I have also been reading posts about quite a few nice fish being caught on Crankbaits and was going to try this but is anyone catching fish on a particular pattern with a fly rod? Any other info on how to fish Taneycomo from a boat is much appreciated. Thanks for all the help.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 30, 2017 Root Admin Posted May 30, 2017 The downtown ramp and Cooper Creek ramp are open and in good shape. Taney's level is 710 feet. That's 9 feet high, so you won't have any issues boating to the dam. Good luck!
Members JBulcock Posted May 30, 2017 Author Members Posted May 30, 2017 Phil, Thank you for the quick response. What method do you suggest using?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 30, 2017 Root Admin Posted May 30, 2017 Conditions haven't changed much... white jigs, shad flies and crank baits. Spoons may be. Stay in the middle.
mmirg Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 We were there last weekend. We ran to the dam and caught them on blade baits. Cast it out. Let it fall to the bottom. Jerk it up 2-3' let it settle back down jerk it up again and get bit.
