LittleRedFisherman Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 As usual the last two months have been super busy for me but after a 3 inch rain on the farm, had a chance to go fishing Saturday! Started the day leaving The house before dark and going to the 11 point for a while when we arrived it was a lot dingier than I expected from the river gauge reading but the gauge I was going by was upriver aways. Anyhow we decided to fish and give it a couple hours and if we did not like what we were doing we would head back to the current river closer to home. Started searching for fish with the crank bait and found a pretty good smallmouth off the bat and thought this is going to be all right, but the rest of the morning proved to be a tough but for us, but when we hooked up it was a decent fish catching another good one on the idea of cra but when we hooked up it was a decent fish catching another good one on the Hi Def Craw and then caught a personal best drum on one! When I hung into this thing for about a minute or so I thought I had a trophy smallmouth, then I start realizing it was pulling different and sure know if it was a big drum still pretty cool in my book though! After that it got pretty tough again we decided to head back to the current river is it was a lot more clear when we crossed it and not his hai when we crossed it and not as High. When we got there we managed to pull out a few small mouth with the normal things but on the current down by the state line I notice more changes in the river as compared to the 11 point from the flood. A couple of the shoals were flattened out more and down here there is more erosion on the banks and noticed that pretty bad. Probably the biggest change I noticed was in one of my favorite smallie spots it's a sharp turn in the river with swift current along the rocky bank usually produces some smallmouth….The flood ate in to the upper part of the turn which spreads the water out now so the once swift bank now has moderate flow in it.. it appears now it is a bank for spotted bass as that is all we caught on it which is still cool in my book but it is definitely something that it appears now it is a bank for spotted bass as that is all we caught on it which is still cool in my book but it is definitely something that is has changed a lot since the flood Anyhow it was great to get back on the river hoping I will have a chance throughout the summer now to sneak away some.
